Use OpenDNS Or GoogleDNS On Your Android Device

So you’ve got yourself a brand new high-end Android device and can’t wait to show off how fast it is to your buddies. Everything seems to be buttery smooth, with the latest version of Android and all, except that you notice it takes a bit longer to load up web pages. You know for sure you are on a 3G plan, and can even see the H+ icon in the notification bar indicating a strong 3G signal. So what could be going wrong? You call your carrier’s customer service only to be told that everything is fine with the cellular network. Sucks, doesn’t it? Well, you can blame it all on the DNS servers used by your operator.

However, changing the existing DNS servers to an alternative free DNS server on you Android device is not that straightforward an affair, at least not for your mobile data network. That’s where this nifty app called DNS Changer comes in. The app lets you change the default DNS on your mobile network to a free or Custom DNS service of your choosing. Free Alternative DNS services like OpenDNS and GoogleDNS are often more reliable, faster and safer than default DNS services used by ISPs or your Mobile Data networks. Using an alternative DNS service like these also comes in handy when your network DNS servers are down, which seems to happen quite often.

Default settings on Android devices let you specify DNS servers used by your device on a WiFi network, but do not offer any option to change the DNS servers used by the device, when on an active 3G/4G network. DNS Changer is a free app available on the Play Store which lets you do this, and with considerable ease.

In fact, you can even specify if you want the DNS server you have specified to be auto-applied when on 3G or WiFi or both. One thing to keep in mind though, that to be able to set the DNS for you mobile network, you need to have a rooted device. Without root access, you would only be able to change the DNS when connected to a WiFi Network .

Take a look at some screenshots from this app, and you will see how easy it is to change your DNS. You can select from a pretty comprehensive list of pre-defined Free DNS services, and even define a custom DNS server.

Try it out and experience better speed and responsiveness when you browse the web on  our mobile device. Hit the link below to get it from the Play Store.
