With manufacturers and major carriers all scrambling to update their high-end devices to the latest version of the Android OS, the focus usually tends to be on bigger carriers such as Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and the ilk. With the announcement of the Galaxy S4 happening later this week, all eyes and ears have shifted towards what new tech Samsung’s 2013 flagship is going to bring to the fore. Under such circumstances, it is easy to lose sight of it’s predecessor, the Galaxy S3, which has recently been updated across Vwerizon and Sprint to Jelly Bean 4.1.2. And hence, it is encouraging to note that U.S Cellular has announced the rollout of 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to the Galaxy S3 SCH-R530 over the weekend. Nice weekend gift for Galaxy S3 owners on U. S Cellular that.
According to the official U.S. Cellular update page, the update is live over-the-air and can be downloaded by going to Settings > About Device > Software Update. Alternatively, you can just wait till the OTA icon pops up on the notification bar, but I guess that would be asking for too much, considering this is Jelly Bean we are talking about. The Android 4.1.2 update update can also be applied by plugging your Galaxy S3 into a computer and running Samsung’s Kies Tool.
Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is a major upgrade and brings with it several new enhancements and features over previous iterations of Android. Here’s a list of the new stuff you can expect.
More Intelligent Interactions
The software update makes your Galaxy S3 even more responsive by boosting your device’s CPU instantly when you touch the screen, and turns it down when you don’t need it, to improve battery life.
Enhanced Notifications Bar
With the update, the notifications bar now displays the full text of incoming SMS messages. When you receive an MMS, you can now view a full photo in your notification.
More Intuitive Interface
The software update also brings faster and smoother navigation on your device. Switching between apps is faster than before.
New Photo Experience
You can now swipe from the camera view finder to quickly review the photos you’ve taken without having to leave the camera app.
New Customization Features
The software update makes customizing the home screen even easier. When you place widgets on the screen everything else automatically moves to make room. Widgets even resize on their own if too big for the display.
Aside from these, the new update is also said to fix the audio issues faced by users while streaming video. We know this has been a long awaited update and a lot of you U.S Cellular Galaxy S3/Note 2 users would be anxious to come upto par.
