Like every other Galaxy S flagship from Samsung, the Galaxy S4 has been highly rumored, speculated and endlessly discussed before its official launch. For that matter, even the launch date and venue have been a topic of speculation at the rumor mills. All the buzz around this handset is well deserved, to say the least, given the kind of phenomenal success and popularity Samsung has gained through its Galaxy S series. And as of today, it looks like at least some of those rumors which have been doing the rounds since the past few days, are turning out to be true. Well, at least the one about a certain March 14th event !
You got that right. Samsung has started sending out invites to a Samsung Unpacked 2013 Episode event. The event is scheduled for March 14th at New York City, as the rumor mills suggested a few days ago, and the invite uses a clever play of words, or rather numbers in the invite punchline to tease us on what the main agenda is.
For starters, it is a Samsung Unpacked event, which, as we have come to see in the past, is a product unveiling session. Second, the invite punchline Get “Ready 4 The Show” uses the number 4 in place of the word ‘for’. And last but not the least, and this one is a no-brainer, the tagline says Come and Meet The Next Galaxy. If that doesn’t make the agenda obvious, I can’t imagine what else could.
Samsung’s upcoming sequel to last years Galaxy S3 has been riddled with rumors, speculations and supposed leaks over the past few weeks, as has been the case with each one of its predecessors.
Just a few days ago, there was heavy speculation that Samsung may drop its SuperAMOLED Full HD displays and the Exynos 5 Octa SoC which we were expecting to see debuted on the SGS4, in favor of SoLux HD displays and Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 600 chips.
While we would have to wait till March 14th to get any information from Sammy on the official specs, here’s what is rumored so far:
- 4.99″ Full HD SoLux OR Super AMOLED display
- 1.9 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 OR Exynos Octa octa-core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16, 32 or 64 GB storage
- 13 MP rear camera
- 2 MP Front camera, 720p video
- 2,600 mAh battery, wireless charging
- Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean
- 140.1 x 71.8 x 7.7mm, 138g
- BlackWhite colour options
2013 has already seen the launch of two high-end flagship devices from Sony (Xperia Z) and HTC (HTC One), both of which would be competing directly with the Samsung Galaxy S4. In addition to these two, there are multiple Full HD display equipped high-end handsets announced by OEMs like Huawei, ZTE & Lenovo among others.
2013 is definitely going to be an interesting year, which will redefine what a high-end handset should be like. And if history is any indicator, Samsung is likely to be right up there tweaking that new definition of the high-end flagship handset. Come March 14th, we would know for sure.
