Oh those crazy people at Facebook are at it again. We recently brought you news of Facebook Home, a home launcher similar to Nova or ADW that will bring you all the Facebook all the time. Riding on the coattails of that announcement is Facebook demoing a new system of emoticons that will help people describe what they’re doing, how they’re feeling, and what they’re being involved with. It’s really a good boost for Facebook, who’s interface is generally not so graphical.
According to Mashable, there are a few lucky individuals who get to test these new emoticons out right now. Here is a quick list of the various ways you can use these new emoticons.
1. You can use it in a status update to tell people how you’re feeling. It’ll have every conceivable mood like happy, sad, indecisive, hungry, moody, and other faces.
2. You’ll be able to use an emoticon made from your likes if you’re doing something you like. For instance, if you’re watching Spongebob Squarepants, you can put that you’re watching Spongebob Squarepants and a little icon of Spongebob will pop up in your status. That’s pretty nifty.
3. More generic emoticons will be added. You can have an ice cream cone pop up in your status if you’re having ice cream, for instance.
So beware, Facebook users, the time of the emoticons is fast approaching. As stated, it isn’t available just yet except to a few people who are the testers. According to Facebook (via Mashable), more profiles will be included as time goes until everyone gets their share of emoticons.
What’s really interesting about this is that just a few months back, Google+ updated their mobile app and Google+ website to include similar emoticons. It’s nowhere in the ballpark of the depth that Facebook is taking it, but Google+ users have been able to post smiley faces telling people how they feel for awhile now. It’s good to see Facebook recognizes good competition when they see it.
Have you gotten to try out the new emoticon system yet? We’d love to hear from you if you have. If not, be patient, the emoticons will come to you soon!
