Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you’ve no doubt heard of Facebook Home by now. Facebook Home is a launcher application being released by Facebook. First, a little backstory. Way back in the year 2012, there were rumors that Facebook was working on a Facebook phone. The idea being that people who loved Facebook could get their social networking fix through a phone that specialized in providing it to them. Those rumors turned out to be false, but Mark Zuckerberg decided not to ditch the idea completely.
Thus, Facebook Home was born. It is a full scale launcher like you’d find with ADW, Nova, or CyanogenMod’s Trebuchet Launcher. Complete with its own lock screen, widgets, and functionality, it’s essentially everything a hardcore Facebook user could ever want in app form. If only they’d let you play Flash games with it.
Well, the APK has been leaked and you can give it a try right now if you want to. It’s not a complete APK as there are numerous bugs and things missing, but it’s still a nice way to preview it and see how Facebook Home is going to work. Some of the issues include:
1. Chat heads do not yet work.
2. Max resolution is 1280×768 (anything different causes everything to be blurry)
3. Some other minor stuff.
Initially, the leak, available over at MoDaCo, was signed with test keys. This presented a security risk so the good guys at MoDaCo resigned them with private keys for security purposes. If you choose to install this, you’ll have to install three APKs total. The first is the launcher, the second is the core app, and the third is the special messenger app they created just for this.
Again, if you choose to do so, you do so at your own risk. There shouldn’t be anything on there that will break your phone, but one can never be too sure, right? If you want to try it, head over to this MoDaCo article to find the APK downloads. If you’ve given it a try, feel free to come on back and let us know what you think of it!
