Our App of the Day feature is aimed to give our readers something new in the Google Play Store to try out every day. So make sure to come back daily to see our next recommendation!
For our inaugural App of the Day feature, we’ve decided to go with probably one of the most solid note taking apps to ever come out of the Google Play Store. Of course, we’re talking about Google Keep. It’s the latest app to come out of Mountain View and it can be used for taking some awesome notes.
There are a variety of ways to use Google Keep. First up is the quick note. You can use the top text bar in the app to jot down a quick note that you may need for later. It works quite well because you don’t have to open up a specific note to use it. Just put the cursor in there and start typing. It’s interesting to note –see what we did there?– that this feature is also available in the widget and in the lock screen widget.
Next up is Google Keep’s text note. This is your standard, format-free note where you can write whatever you want. There is no character limit either, so if you want to write a whole blog post in there, you can!
Google Keep’s list note is our personal favorite. It’s formatted to take a note in a list. Simply hit the enter button on your keyboard to start the next part of the list. You can do grocery lists, to-do lists, shopping lists, or pretty much any other list you can think of.
Did we mention that you can also use your voice to take a note? When in the app, just click the voice button and you can orally enter your note. The cool thing is that Google Keep saves the sound bit to play back whenever you want it so you can listen to your note whenever you need to. Additionally, this feature is integrated into Google Voice Search. Simply open Voice Search, start with, “take a note”, then say whatever your note is and Google Keep automatically creates a new note for it.
The last major way that Google Keep can take a note is using a picture note. When starting a new note, choose the picture one and the camera app will open up. Then point and shoot the picture you want for your note and it’ll become part of the note. This is great for when you need to remind yourself of something or if you just want to take a picture for a specific purpose and want to remember what it was.
Overall, Google Keep is a great note taking application if you want to take notes but don’t want the bells and whistles of more complicated note taking apps like Evernote. Also, it’s free! Who doesn’t like that?
