Today’s app of the day is a nifty little puzzle game called Jewels Quest. It’s brand new in the Google Play Store and while it does borrow from some concepts of other games like Bejeweled, it’s still a really fun and simple game to play. In fact, despite the borrowing from Bejeweled’s game type, the app has amassed over 500,000 downloads in the Google Play Store in just a few short weeks.
In case you’re unfamiliar with how these kinds of games typically work, here is an overview. Jewels Quest starts with a massive screen full of various shapes in various colors. The object of the game is to match at least 2 shapes of the same color together. Once you do, they disappear, you get some points, and the objects above it fall down to take their place.
Additionally, new objects will appear and fall to the top of the stack. Typically, about half of the objects you match up will respawn at the top of the board. For instance, if you remove 2 objects, 1 new object will appear. You gain more points depending on how big the combination is. For instance, you score much more when you remove 5 objects at once than when you remove 2 or 3.
In the background is a fairly generic soundtrack and it goes along with fairly generic sound effects. However, Jewels Quest isn’t about being pleasing to the ears, it’s about being a puzzle game. In that category, Jewels Quest is actually quite good. It’s a breath of fresh air in an otherwise over produced game type and if you like these types of games, it’s worth checking out.
